RULES

GAMEPLAY
-Maximum roster of 9 players and 1 goalie
         -Teams may switch goalies game-by-game within roster
-Four-on-four play, plus goalies
-Change on the fly
-Faceoff to begin the game and after each goal
-When the goalie freezes the ball, his team gets possession
         -5 seconds to play the ball behind the net

         -Once 5 secs or the ball moves past the goal line, ball is fair game
-Hand passes (batting, not throwing) allowed within defensive side of center
-Hand passes made within or into offensive zone will result in loss of possession (no penalty)
-Contacting the ball with a high stick (defined as above the shoulders) will result in loss of possession
-Scoring with a high stick (defined as above crossbar level) will result in a disallowed goal and loss of possession
-Slapshots allowed (no restriction on wind up or follow through)
-Ball used is liquid filled and semi-hard
-Nets are regulation-sized (4 x 6 feet)

STATS
-Goals and assists kept for each player (no second assists)
-After each goal, players must let the referee know the goal- and assist-scorers number
        -Ball will not be dropped until stats are declared
-For the referee's convenience, each player must be assigned a number
        -It is not necessary to wear your number, but you must remember it for stat-keeping purposes
-Goals against average, save percentage and shutouts kept for each goalie

PENALTIES
-Games are reffed; all decisions final by referee

-Penalties are 1 minute in length
         -Public shaming and implicit sense of moral inadequacy included
-No cross-checking, tripping, hooking, slashing, high-sticking, etc.
-No intentional contact
-Incidental contact allowed at discretion of referee
-Play the ball, not the body

-Penalty shots awarded in the event of infraction during breakaway
-Verbal abuse of the referee or other players is an automatic penalty
-Verbal abuse of someone within your team, while stupid, will be un-penalized

ROUND ROBIN
-Each team will play each other once
-Games are 20 minutes in length
-Clock runs continuously
        -Except in the last 3 minutes in the event that the score is within 2 goals
                    -Time stopped in the event of a goal, penalty or injury
-No overtime

STANDINGS
-Two points are assigned for a win
-One point is assigned for a tie
-Top four teams advance to the playoffs
-Tiebreakers in the standings determined by the following (in order):
        -Wins
        -Goal differential
        -Goals for
        -Head-to-head result

PLAYOFFS
-Two semifinal games
        -First seed versus fourth seed
        -Second seed versus third seed
-Games are 20 minutes in length

AWARDS
-Players of the game will receive a Gatorade store brand coloured sports drink
        -Chosen every game for winning and losing team
        -Chosen by opposing team immediately following game
        -Wish we could award these, but I'm not sure they actually exist
-Tournament MVP will be chosen by the referee
        -Take-home trophy varies from tournament to tournament
