BATTLE OF THE BALLS | september 2009

After the first two tournaments were held in an East Vancouver community centre, Battle of the Balls 2009 changed venues to a larger elementary school gym.  No more cramming 20 dudes into an equipment room and no more getting locked into a parking lot at 11 pm on a Saturday.  It was the first and only tournament to feature a two-pool, six-team format and also the first to adopt the "Battle of the Balls" moniker.

District Five went undefeated in four games en route to its first finals appearance, where they beat two-time defending champions Team VCS 4-2.  New goaltender Stefan Plantinga was awarded Tournament MVP with one shutout and a 1.50 GAA.
